Walking / trekking equipment:
If you are looking to buy any new walking clothing, footwear or equipment, we have an excellent specialist shop nearby in Shere. You can also hire kit from them for longer treks and expeditions. See their website at www.trekhireuk.com
Walking groups and routes:
Dorking Walkers Club is affiliated to The Ramblers, and their website has a wealth of information. The local group is Mole Valley Ramblers; many of their walks are farther afield and longer than the Dorking Walkers’ ones, which are always 4-5 miles in 2 hours.
The Walking in Surrey page of John Harris’ website has lots of ideas for routes and FREE printable walk directions. We are listed in the Club section.
We are also listed on the Rambling Clubs website.
The Surrey page of the Fancy Free Walks website has excellent, frequently updated FREE walk instructions for many routes in this area.
Many of our walks use National Trust land and car parks and our local area is London and South East.
We are lucky to be surrounded by the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the website has a FREE list of walks with directions.
If you are interested in shorter local walks and don’t feel ready to join a club, the Mole Valley Walk for Health scheme has a programme of regular, graded walks around Dorking and Leatherhead and you can just turn up to any of them. A good way to get started if you are not sure how far you can manage!
